The Ties that Bind
The Barbaric Peoples
When the Old Empire first pushed into western Morinar, control of the mainland was firmly in the hands of several tribes of barbaric peoples worshipping foul gods. Though they tried to stem the Talgenori offensives they found themselves outmatched by both superior technology and tactics. Faced with utter annihilation the tribes decided to either flee into the north or go deep into the wilds. This created two new distinct groups of people; the Nordlings, and the Hill Folk.
The Nordlings are the barbaric peoples who fled deep into the north to escape the iron spear of the Old Imperial dominion. Due to the barren and inhospitable climate of the area, these savages have been forced to adapt and thus have become fearsome sea raiders striking most often at northern and western shores; as those are the closest to their settlements. Fair of skin and hair they are a mountainously big folk who are renowned for their berserker warriors.
Those who chose not to flee to the north however became what the new settlers call Hill folk. These tribes are made up of men who live in the most inhospitable regions in the main lands and regularly sally out to pillage hapless villages. Most often found in the deep forests, mountainous regions, and of course the hills they were named for dwelling in. The hill folk have been a constant thorn in the side of the settlers for as long as they can remember.
